For those of you who believe...

  • that calendars established by human authorities have metaphysical significance
  • that the solar year should begin with the first day of the month of Janus—instead of at the spring equinox, or the winter solstice, or Samhain, or at some other astronomical or religious moment of the cycle round the sun
  • that we should be using the calendar established by Pope Gregory XIII on Friday, Oct. 15, 1582, the day after Thursday, Oct. 4, 1582—instead of the Julian calendar established by Julius Caesar in 46 B.C.E. (Gregorian calendar, of course)
Happy New Year!

January 1, 2010 (Mayan calendar)Happy New Year to the rest of you, too!
