Worthwhile stuff

Since Samhain (aka Hallowe'en), things have been way too busy to keep up with blogging, what with the election, the imminent rollout of an expanded Ask a Librarian live chat reference service for Jacksonville Public library—not to mention the annual it's-November-and-all-the-overlapping-multitasking-library-projects-are-coming-due-at-the-same-time-stress-induced throat and chest cold...hackhackhack....

So...here's a mushed together list of very interesting blog posts, not in any particular order, but worth checking out.

• "Thanks Tampa Bay Library Consortium": Michael Stephens of Tame the Web was at TBLC to present "The Hyperlinked Library" to their annual meeting on November 7th. (His slideshow is linked from his post. Warning: it's a 70.23 MB PDF file!)


• Speaking of it's-November...etc...multitasking...etc...stress-induced...etc., on November 7th, NEFLIN made available a fine online course from College of DuPage Programs called "Reverse the Ratchet: Basic Technology Adoption Strategies for Library Workers." Stephanie Race told me this is a good remedy for it's-November...etc.... Read her blog post and request the link to the recording or the DVD or videotape.


• Sarah Houghton-Jan of Librarian in Black links to a New York Times blog post by David Pogue, "Tech Tips for the Basic Computer User." Sarah and David are both worth adding to your RSS newsreader subscriptions.


• Swiss Army Librarian Brian Herzog has a useful review of different online polling options.


• And, just for fun, Peter Morville of findability.org posted this last month: Tag Galaxy.

Library Blogging by Karen Coombs and Jason Griffey

There's a new book, Library Blogging by Karen Coombs and Jason Griffey, which is highly recommended by Michael Stephens in Tame the Web.

I haven't looked at it myself, yet, but I value TTW's opinions. Here's a little of what Stephens writes:

If you are starting a blogging project in your library or teaching blogging, I’d recommend this one for sure as an up to date choice. I’ll be using it as a classroom resource in my teaching.
